As Saint Patrick’s Day approaches, students and alumni from Chandler High School celebrate the holiday in ways that reflect who they are and what they value.
For senior Elizabeth Felix, the day is less about what she wears and more about who she is with.
“When Saint Patrick’s Day comes around, I usually spend it with my family,” Elizabeth explained. After a long day at school, she looks forward to going home, sitting down together, and enjoying time that often feels rare during her busy senior year. The holiday gives her a chance to slow down and reconnect.
“It’s nice to have a day where we can just talk and be together,” she said, noting that those moments mean more to her than any tradition at school.
For Chandler High alumnus Shawn Ogles, Saint Patrick’s Day brings back memories of simpler times. His celebration is easy to spot. He wears all green every year.
“I’ve always done it,” Shawn said with a laugh. “It’s just something fun.” Even after graduating, he keeps the tradition alive as a way to stay connected to his high school experience and the joy of celebrating with friends.
Though Elizabeth and Shawn celebrate differently, their traditions share the same heart. Elizabeth finds meaning in family, while Shawn expresses his through school spirit and fun. Together, their stories show that Saint Patrick’s Day isn’t about one right way to celebrate, it’s about creating moments that matter and traditions that last.
