Lamp, a Japanese indie pop band that was formed in the 2000s has announced their long awaited first world tour, Future Behind Me – The Americas World Tour. Lucky for us, one of the locations happens to be in Arizona on November 4th. The band comprises guitarist Taiyo Someya (染 谷太陽), vocalist and multi instrumentalist Yusuke Nagai (永 井 祐介), along with Kaori Sakakibara (榊原香保里).
In 2001, after the members were writing some songs together, they opened up their first show in a small bar in Japan. Later in 2002, they signed a record deal with the label, Motel Bleu and finally released their debut album, Soyokaze Apartment Room 201, several months after. Throughout the decade, their popularity grew more than ever. In their early years, the band was popular mostly in Asia, performing in Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Even though the band is not as well-known among Americans as in other places, there are some students here at Chandler High who are interested in the band. One of them is Abigahil Montecillo, a Sophomore here at CHS. Abigahil was interested in Lamp and has been a fan of them since 2021 when she was playing a “random playlist” during a study session. She fell in love with their music because of how calming and relaxing it feels. Out of all the three talented members, her favorite is Kaori because she enjoys her voice and the way she sings. Lamp has published nine studio albums, and Koibito He (恋人へ), Lamp’ s second album, is Abigahil’ s favorite. She said she likes the cover and how cute it is and one of the songs is her favorite as well.
Tuesday, November 4th will be Lamp’ s first concert here in Tempe, Arizona at the Marquee Theater. Abigahil Montecillo stated, “I’m really excited they’re coming to Arizona, I’ve been hoping they would come here one day but sadly I can’ t go.”
