On November 2, 2024, Chandler High School’s Student Council transformed the school courtyard into an exciting “Haunted Halloween” event to celebrate our annual Homecoming dance. After several weeks of anticipation, hundreds of kids showed up ready for an exciting night of fun in their most creative costumes.
This year’s Homecoming Dance décor included various scary monsters, fog machines, enormous inflatables, and an eerie style that changed the school’s environment and created a memorable experience for everyone to enjoy. The orange and purple lights perfectly captivated and frightened the students, and the sight of very spooky creatures that were stalking the grounds of the school’s campus was one of the many highlights that many students enjoyed the most during this freighting event.
Many students enjoyed the fact that the entirety of this Homecoming dance was a massive Halloween party, despite the event’s scheduling two days after the actual holiday. “I honestly expected more costumes because of Halloween but it was pleasantly surprising,” said Natalia Acosta, a current freshman at Chandler High School. Acosta emphasized that she loved her first homecoming dance at Chandler High School and was amazed by the spooky decorations around the courtyard. She also mentioned that she wasn’t bothered by the dance’s two-day post-Halloween schedule.
Although this year’s theme might have been a repeat of a couple of years ago, “As a senior, it was a fun last homecoming,” stated Ben Cluff, a current CHS senior. Cluff believed that this year’s homecoming theme was a perfect way to wrap up his high school career, as he was able to celebrate with many of his good friends. The one thing that Cluff didn’t like about the event was the smoke machines placed in different parts of the courtyard, which unfortunately released an unpleasant smell as the night went on. Several students who attended the dance expressed the hope that the issue would be fixed before next year’s homecoming dance.
Despite any minor annoyances, this spooky dance beautifully captured Chandler High’s vibrant community and school spirit in numerous ways. The evening was filled with friendship and excitement, as many students came together to make memories that would last a lifetime. As students left the courtyard, they carried home with them cherished memories of the happiness and friendship that defined the true meaning of what it means to celebrate a homecoming dance at Chandler High School.
