Chandler High School offers a strong language program, including several levels of Spanish, French, and German. But what isn’t as well known is that students who are interesting in the language and cultures of French-speaking people all around the world can join CHS’s French Club, sponsored by our own French language teacher, Ms. Bejarano.
Ms. Bejarano has been teaching at CHS for seven years and has been the French Club sponsor since then. Along with her language expertise, Ms. Bejarano herself is French and has brought her own knowledge of Francophone culture to the club. She explained that French Club isn’t just about practicing language skills: “The French club isn’t [just] a language club. It’s about learning about French culture and learning different aspects of it.”
The French Club holds many events for their members to meet together and enjoy learning about French culture throughout the year, including cooking French cuisine together in the CHS culinary program kitchen and even taking a field trip to a crêpe shop!
Ms. Bejarano has loved seeing how students over the years have really dived into learning about French culture and ideas, and she loves that she’s able to share more about what she loves with CHS students.
While the regular meetings are always fun and worthwhile, Ms. Bejarano said that learning about French cuisine is always popular year after year. “The students love making the food and learning more about how to make it and eating together as a club,” she said.
