ITS Drama Club is a popular and long-standing club at Chandler High School. ITS is a group of passionate students who live and breathe theater. Whether you dream of being on stage, designing sets, or working behind the scenes, there’s a place for everyone here. It’s a fantastic way to express yourself, build confidence, and make lifelong friends.
ITS stands for International Thespian Society, the largest honor society for high school and middle school students in theater arts. ITS members work behind the scenes to put on quality stage productions throughout the school year. Whether memorizing lines, perfecting their characters, or building sets and making costumes, it takes dedication and teamwork to put on a great show. But seeing the audience’s reaction on opening night makes it all worthwhile for them.
Mia Salinas, the current stage manager for CHS Theater, recounted her experience in ITS as “a loving theater family.” She elaborated, “ITS club is a genuinely nice environment to be around. Transferring from the drama room to stage productions with everyone being polite and understanding and not being harsh or mean to each other, as well as being able to take feedback positively.”
Participating in ITS allows Mia to nurture her love for theater, improve her skills as a stage manager, helps her stay in touch with current theater events at school.
Claire Likes, whose mother and brother are both experienced actors and is a performer herself, loves that ITS is an inclusive and welcoming place: “ITS Club is where everyone can be included and learn about either on-stage or behind-stage theatre.”
As a performer, ITS Drama Club helps Claire “feel comfortable in [her] skin… while also helping [her] branch out to new people.”
