Rebecca Aldecoa is a dedicated and passionate staff member here at Chandler High, where she has worked her way from a chef to manager of Chandler High School’s cafeteria!
Aldecoa’s job entails considerable labor: “I do paperwork, I do the ordering, I have to make schedules. All that stuff and then in between, I’m also doing lunch lines and preparing the day for service.” As a manager, Aldecoa’s average day is long and demanding. “I come in at 5:00, and I start preparing breakfast,” she explained. The cafeteria has to prepare breakfast for 150-170 high school students, as well as the daycare.
Lunch is the most significant part of Aldecoa’s day; the cafeteria serves over 1,000 people daily! The cafeteria menu remains consistent from day to day. However, students can expect a change very soon, because the mini truck will be coming back! It has been traveling from school to school with a variety of foods for students to try, and now it is coming back to CHS. Be on the lookout for flyers around campus indicating its arrival.

The cafeteria records the amount of food it serves to ensure they don’t cook excess meals. Cafeteria workers are allowed to eat one free meal per day, but any leftover food needs to be refrigerated. Unfortunately, they have to throw away food they can’t store.
Looking to make some extra cash? Chandler High School is hiring juniors and seniors to work in the school cafeteria. Employees will need to start early, waking up before school to prepare fruit and other important tasks. It’s a straightforward way to earn a paycheck, without leaving campus.
Rebecca Aldecoa truly loves her job: “We make sure everybody is fed. That’s my main goal– feeding everybody.” She loves being with kids and working at Chandler High, almost as much as she likes the nachos and burritos they serve at lunch!
