Whether it be from her time spent here as a student walking through the very halls of Chandler High, or through the moments she now spends teaching literature to our fellow Chandler students, it’s clear that Mrs. Stormy Rodriguez Haffey is not only one of the school’s most vocal alumni, but also one of its most involved and beloved teachers.
Although she actually attended and graduated from CHS, most of Mrs. Haffey’s favorite memories are from working here as a teacher. “My personal high school experience was kind of boring. I kind of stayed to myself and was very much wanting to get high school over with,” she explained. It was when she returned to this school, after earning both English and history degrees, that she truly saw the potential that our school offers. “Coming back as a staff member, I think it kind of was the opposite. I’ve been involved in a lot of different things, and I think that has made it much more enjoyable. I honestly love working here,” Haffey said.
Outside of teaching English, Haffey also sponsors Wolf Crew and Latinx Student Union and participates in the Chandler Booster Club with other CHS teachers, parents, and alumni.
A new challenge for Mrs. Haffey this year is becoming Chandler’s El Lobo yearbook staff advisor. The annual yearbooks have always held a special place in her heart, and she had always made sure to pick up a copy not only for herself and her children. Haffey explained that she “loved having the chance to look back and remember” parts of the year. “It’s a nice piece of history,” she elaborated.
One of Haffey’s major goals for her first year advising the yearbook staff is making sure that every student feels part of this year’s yearbook. She wants to “make sure every student feels seen and to represent Chandler High in the best ways possible to showcase all the amazing things that we do.”
More than anything else, Mrs. Haffey understands the emotional value of a yearbook for years to come: “Having that yearbook helps to keep those treasured memories close and even some of those embarrassing, cringey moments that, you know, got captured and immortalized in the yearbook.”
It’s clear that Mrs. Haffey is going to have yet another fantastic year here at Chandler High, which we look forward to seeing recorded along with all our school memories in this year’s yearbook when it releases next spring.
