If you’ve ever met sophomore Olivia Dlott, you know she’s not afraid to speak her mind, or speak in general. As a new addition to The Wolf Howl staff, Olivia brings with her a love for writing, a passion for people, and a public speaking resume that already includes placing in the top ten at the state level for speech and debate.
“I’ve always been really passionate about journalism and informing people,” Olivia said. “I thought this would be a great opportunity to expand my skills.” She’s especially excited to write stories that make students feel more connected to school life: covering clubs, student opportunities, and ways to get involved.
Her interest in storytelling doesn’t stop at writing. Olivia thrives in performance-based events and has a genuine love for connecting with others. “I just love interacting, talking to people, and making new friends,” she said.
Beyond the newsroom, Olivia’s world includes posting on social media, listening to artists like Laufey and Beabadoobee, and dreaming about a future in political journalism. Discussing her future, she said, “I definitely want to study something in the humanities, somewhere I’m informing people and meeting new people everywhere.”
Her advice for new freshmen? “Take all the opportunities you can. Any clubs you can join, any extracurriculars you can do, do it. You’re going to regret not doing it.”
Whether she’s reporting, debating, or making TikToks for the paper, one thing is for sure: Olivia Dlott is here to make her voice heard—and help others do the same.
