In her second year on the Wolf Howl staff and her fourth year at Chandler High School, reporter-turned-editor Abby Ogles has more than proven herself as a top-notch reporter and stand-out student.
Abby has participated in many programs throughout her time here at Chandler, including FFA, tennis, and now Swim and Dive.
Abby’s newspaper journey began on the last day of her sophomore year, when, according to Ogles, “a friend convinced me to join. I always saw the newspaper on campus, and I thought it was interesting.”
Although Abby didn’t know too much about the Wolf Howl before joining, she soon found it to be “pretty good” and decided to stick around. Arizona Interscholastic Press Association’s Fall Convention was a memorable early experience for her, when she and the team “went to ASU and got to spend the whole day just learning about their newspaper program and how it works over there,” and later in the year, she even had the opportunity to travel out of state: “[we] went on a big trip to Seattle, which was really fun for a convention.”
Field trips notwithstanding, Abby said she enjoys feeling connected to the whole school: “It’s really cool to learn about all the different clubs and teachers on campus that usually students wouldn’t know about unless they’re a part of The Wolf Howl.”
This year Abby hopes to improve on her capabilities and proficiency as both a reporter and an editor. Not only is Abby “looking forward to kind of diving deeper in my interviewing,” she will also start her work as this year’s Sports Editor. She is excited to be “diving more into sports like football, track, tennis, swim, all those teams and kind of getting the insider scoop that most kids wouldn’t know about.”
Abby will definitely be keeping busy during her last year, including joining Human Kindness Club and Swim for the first time, but one thing is still for sure: Abby Ogles will be a great reporter, and an even better editor, this year.
