Nick Hernandez Romero is a junior in his second year on the Wolf Howl newspaper staff, bringing his laid-back energy, artistic passion, and sharp sense of humor with him.
When I asked Nick to describe himself in three words, Nick laughed and replied, “A lazy bum,” but don’t let that fool you. He’s a storyteller at heart, with a clear vision for what he wants to create. “I just want to make stories,” he later elaborated. “I like writing, but not about stuff I don’t like.”
Nick first joined the Wolf Howl last year and now he’s back, excited to write stories that matter to him and maybe snag a plate at the next potluck. Outside of class, Nick spends his time drawing on his screenless tablet, watching movies while eating popcorn, and creating a world of his own. He’s especially passionate about animals and dreams of saving up for a project that helps stray animals. He was inspired by the ten or so animals he already feeds near his home.
Nick describes his decision to rejoin the newspaper in the most Nick way possible: “I joined because you joined!” he joked. But at the core of it, he’s excited to be part of something creative again.
His advice? “Do the things you like, man.” And that’s exactly what Nick plans to do this year: one story at a time.
