Playing a vital role in a school organization, making a difference on campus, preparing and developing skills for the future, and diving deeper into passions and interests that inform not only yourself, but your school community. These are all experiences and skills that senior Ipshita Chowdhury has obtained through her four years at Chandler High School, particularly through the Wolf Howl Newspaper.
Ipshita is this year’s opinions editor for our school newspaper. She was introduced to this activity through a teacher who recognized her deep passion for writing. Ipshita has touched on many subjects important to her and her peers through her articles, including topics like the recent state and district classroom phone ban. “I like to think that I’m being a voice,” Ipshita said.
Ipshita also spoke about the useful knowledge and preparation she received from joining the newspaper, such as being more confident in speaking to people and being prepared for things like job interviews. Ipshita stated, “Newspaper has let me go outside of my comfort zone and explore new things and stories.”
Ipshita’s passions and interests expand beyond just writing. One of her many ambitions is to pursue a career in law. She educates herself on this aspiration of hers through an organization called the Chandler Mayor’s Youth Council. “We basically discuss issues affecting youth today and plan events for the city of Chandler,” Ipshita described. She would also like to explore a path in languages, as she has been taking Spanish courses since the sixth grade. She has also grown a love for reviewing and analyzing movies, calling herself a “Letterboxd fanatic.” Some of her favorite movies are Call Me by Your Name and Ponyo.
Ipshita urged underclassmen to “Please get involved,” and advises everyone to stay focused and not slack off because, in her words, “The second you slack off, you will feel the pain.”
