As participants in a game that requires intense focus and competition, the baseball team at Chandler High School is dedicated to working and training hard for the game. Chander’s Varsity Baseball team recently hosted this season’s first four-day tournament from February 26 to March 1, 2025. Although they started off the season with two losses, they finished their tournament strong with a solid win against the Mountain Pointe Pride with a final score of 19-1.
Jackson Durham, senior, is a pitcher for the varsity team who practiced day in and day out for this event. Jackson summed up his perspective toward the sport: “Put in the work, just try your best, and it’ll work out in the end”. Durham said that this season’s tryouts for the team went very well for him, allowing him to showcase his strengths in teamwork and working with other players. Jackson’s eventual goal is to make a college team and attempt to play baseball professionally.
Luke Rylee, senior outfielder, also looks forward to improving his baseball game after high school. “Not only is college a step closer to a professional level, but also a broad opening to learn from the best as well,” Luke explained. Luke said his strengths during tryouts and the beginning of the season were teamwork and catching and connecting with teammates long-range. His immediate goal this year is to finish the season on a high note and not let the people who have been rooting for him down.
