Theater has always had a way of bringing people together here at Chandler High School. On November 21, 2024, this year’s Winter Showcase has done a great job of displaying that. Theater I and APAC Junior Company performed in the Chandler Center for the Arts Bogle Theater starting at 7PM. While these groups only had an hour to show what they worked on all semester, it was awesome. Aside from showing off their fantastic talent, the night’s performances also showed a vast amount of teamwork and compassion.
The first set of performances was the Theater 1 class’ lip-syncs. They performed very well and showed off fun skills they have been learning in recent weeks. The variety of lip-syncs was incredible, from Disney tunes to Christmas classics; the students worked hard to keep the audience entertained. The audience seemed to love the skits, with a ton of applause before and after each one.
After a short intermission, next up was APAC Junior Company. They showed a lot of outstanding singing, scenes, and even poems. I enjoyed the singing a lot because they chose wonderful pieces that represented them really well. The scenes were also very enjoyable, with terrific acting and characterization that was beautifully played. Theater 1 student Julia Chamberlin had only praise for her fellow performers: “Solos, duets, groups—they were amazing!”
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, students in Stagecraft worked this whole quarter to learn all sorts of skills related to putting on a stage production, from lights to sound to props. I’m shocked by how fast the students were able to learn all of these skills. They really put the cinematic cherry on top, making the experience truly enjoyable for all audience members.
Theater I and APAC Junior Company have always been good at helping people put their differences aside and come together. Yet again, they proved this with this year’s Winter Showcase. Thursday night’s performers may have only had an hour to show off their skills, but they killed it. With every scene, group, and dance, they were amazing.
