Checking in midway through the winter sports season, Chandler High School’s teams have been nothing short of spectacular. The Wolves showcased their prowess across various disciplines, making their presence felt in the Arizona sports community. The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team, led by Coach Amy Andrews, has had many memorable victories this season, alongside the Varsity Boys’ team led by Johnathan Rother. This year’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer team is also coming in with a smash as well this 2024-2025 season. Girls’ Soccer Coach Trevor Wood leads this year’s team with high hopes for the year. Varsity Boys’ Soccer Coach Sasha Hunter leads this year’s team in his 9th year of coaching. Despite officially retiring from teaching last year, award-winning Varsity Wrestling Coach Vidal Mejia has returned to lead Chandler’s wrestling teams to many victories this year.
Noelle Czaplewski, a junior, has been playing on Chandler’s soccer team for three years. Noelle said, “The years I’ve spent on the team have been the best years of my life. However, this season holds a special place for me.”
Her teammate Kyla Simmons, junior, said their time together has brought them closer than just teammates: “The family that has developed over the years with these girls is the best. From practices to games and crazy bus rides, I will cherish these memories forever.”
Basketball player Brandy Shella Oben-Ngwa Bessem, junior, explained that even veteran players have more to learn each season. She said, “This has been a really challenging year in a good way. This season has really pushed me into who I want to become as a basketball player.” Brandy has been playing basketball for seven years and has very much enjoyed this season so far. She hopes to play basketball professionally and aspires to be in the WNBA one day.
Overall, this winter sports season for Chandler High has been one for the books. From showstopping goals on the soccer field to legendary baskets scored on the court to memorable moments showcased on the mat, this year of winter sports for Chandler High has been full of memorable highlights.
