Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you won the lottery? Two people in Arizona have won big in the lottery this past month. Both winning tickets, one sold at a local Circle K and another at QuikTrip, were eligible for winnings of over $1 million dollars.
Barry Henderson, a father of a student at CHS and experienced lottery ticket buyer, was shocked to hear the news. Barry used to buy tickets almost every Friday night coming home from work and always bought two or more at once. Although not getting extremely lucky, he has won a few hundred dollars from these tickets at times, encouraging him to go back and buy more lottery tickets every other weekend. Henderson explained, “It’s something fun to look forward to on the weekends. Either win or lose, I still have that chance to win big.” Henderson doesn’t influence other people to buy lottery tickets, but he thinks if you have the loose money to spend, you might as well try your luck with the lottery.
Although the majority of Chandler High School students aren’t yet able to participate in the lottery–Arizona law says you must be 18 years or older to purchase a ticket–The Wolf Howl’s informal poll on Instagram showed that 78% of respondents (over 200 students) said they would consider buying a lottery ticket when they are 18. This shows how these tickets draw tons of attention to not just the youth but anyone in society.
