Chandler High’s Track and Field team has had more than half of their athletes beat their personal records this season according to the recorded times on MileSplit AZ.
Pole Vaulter Shae Laskowski-Trant, a junior at Chandler High School on the track and field team, practices two to three times a week during the season and continues to train throughout the year. Outside of the track season, she is a member of the dive team at Chandler and trains with plyometrics and heavy weightlifting. Shae’s favorite part about pole vaulting is the kind and supportive people that she has met. “People should join pole vaulting because it is a relatively laid-back sport that gets you in shape for any other sport you’re involved in, and it’s really fun to see the progress being made from practices to meets.”
CHS sophomore Hazel Quezada mainly competes in running events. She’s been running since she was in fourth grade and now runs six days a week. Hazel says her favorite part about running is seeing the progress she makes such as running faster times. To train in the off-season, Hazel runs cross country and does workouts on the track. Hazel said, “This track season is going great so far. Many athletes have improved their times and the relays have made a lot of progress.” Hazel is one of the many students who contribute to a strong community of athletes on the track and field team. As Hazel stated, the relays are doing very well as the 4×1 for both girls and boys is first in the state according to MileSplit AZ. Many students at Chandler cannot wait to see how the track season turns out and what else this team can accomplish.
