Interested in joining a dance club on campus?

Take into consideration Chandler Pomline!

Many people first think; what is that? Pom is the best combination between cheer and dance. You can end up performing at football games, basketball games, and even assemblies. Pom is also a lot more than just dancing and performing as you can get involved with the community as well. For example, when the Canes on Arizona Ave. had their grand opening, Pom was there on the sidelines supporting and dancing to bring in more crowds.

Pom is also highly focused on improving skills in dance as well as skills in life and character development. The coaches push you to the best you can be while always having hope in the seemingly impossible. This results in a push in self-confidence and team thriving. The team dynamic is a close-knit group who all want to dance and perform because they love it. It’s almost impossible to not have fun as the team is uplifting and all want the best for each other. Another important quality to emphasize is the accountability and commitment expectations from your possible coaches and teammates. Like any other sport, Pom is rigorous and a day to day commitment as there can be practices in the morning and after school. This is also not including games that are after school and events on the weekends such as competition or helping in communities. To be able to join the team it is important to be aware of the dedication that is stressed.

However, taking control of this from the get-go can result in gaining commitment skills for the future. Most jobs and futures for high school students are going to involve commitment and dedication to even the smallest of things so learning this early on with people like the Pom team supporting you is inequivalent to any other sport. Don’t let this discourage you from joining as the coaches are supportive and will help you get to wherever you can and want to be.

Another important aspect to consider is the history with the Pom team. In competitions there are three levels of skill; novice, intermediate, and advanced. In the past, the team has been in the small intermediate category as the skill level was not there for advanced. However, this year Pom stepped it up to the advanced level for the first time in a decade. This is monumental to the future of Pom and where Chandler puts themselves when comparing to other schools. The intention is to keep this high level of skill while still adhering to what the team needs.

Overall, if you are interested in joining Chandler Pomline or learning more about the club, please feel free to view the Chandler Pomline website or Instagram. If you have any questions then you can reach out to the head coach, Anaiis Hurtado.
